Emblem for presidential inauguration unveiled
Jan 28, 2008
The preparatory committee for the Feb. 25 inauguration of President-elect Lee Myung-bak has unveiled the ceremony's emblem. It features a drum and a traditional trumpet designed to symbolize the country's march toward a prosperous and peaceful future.
Committee chairman Park Beom-hoon said Monday (Jan. 28) that the drum was selected of its powerful and inspiring sound, and that the traditional trumpet ''taepyeongso,'' a Korean double-reed wind instrument, was picked because its sound is said to calm the world and bring peace.
The emblem was chosen from ten recommendations after numerous evaluations.
The committee also unveiled a broad layout of how the ceremony will take place. For the first time in the nation's history, the president-elect will give a presentation-type inauguration speech featuring video materials on a big screen. Previous inauguration speeches were just 30 minutes long with no visual materials.
The speech platform will also be lowered to portray the president as a friend who will listen to the people rather than an authoritative figure.
