Job Opening - English Editor

The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) is looking for a native English speaker to proofread articles written for as well as various promotional publications and materials produced by the organization. The individual must be able to promptly and accurately edit or re-write text written by Korean staff writers and other contributors, sometimes adding appropriate background material or deleting nonessential content. The resulting text must follow Western (specifically, Associated Press (AP)) style and logic patterns but retain the original meaning, while avoiding overly idiomatic expressions or complicated wording. It is also hoped that the editor will contribute one story or more a week based on his or her own ideas/contacts/interviews/research. Besides this, it will sometimes be required to critique/comment on English narration and subtitles of documentaries about Korea.

◦ Position
  - Job Title: Copy editor/ Writer
  - Salary Range: Approximately 3.0-3.5 million won/month, negotiable
  - Working hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon to Fri, occasional overtime and weekend work required
  - Location: Near Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok Palace), central Seoul (4F KOLON Bldg.,15 Hyoja-ro, Jongno-gu,  Seoul-si #110-040)
  - Period: Renewable 1-year contract, provided applicant passes two-month trial period and has satisfactory work performance

◦ Qualifications
  - MA/MS or above, preferably in journalism
  - 3 years editing / writing experience, preferably with Standard English
  - Native English Speaker
  - Knowledge of Korean history, culture, current affairs
  - Highly developed computer skills and an ability to learn new software applications quickly
  - Desire to increase awareness about government policies and Korea in general
  - Passionate enough to contribute creative ideas on how to improve site’s effectiveness
  - Ability to work effectively and in coordination with coworkers in an all-Korean office environment, though immediate contacts speak fluent English (Korean language ability is a significant advantage)
  - Must be able to work in Sejong City (KOCIS is scheduled to relocate within the year)
